iSeries=Intelligent Design. What is this new iSeries all about?
HK Lighting Group was asked "where do I put the ballast enclosure?"
With electronic ballasts, the distance from the fixture is limited, I have no
room." With the advent of reliable electronic ballasts and a unique design to
dissipate the heat created by the ballast and lamp, we are able to bring to
market a very compact fixture design, the iSeries. The ballast is in the base
of the fixture. It is cooled by convection with what we call "Air Gap" design.
Air Gap design insures the proper air space between the heat generating lamp
hood and the ballast compartment, resulting in cool operating environment for
the electronic ballast. Patent pending.

What is Chromate?
The majority of our fixtures are aluminum. Since they are generally
installed in a harsh environment, paint adhesion is a major concern. When you
paint an aluminum fixture, the key is surface preparation. If you do a poor job
preparing the surface, the paint will not adhere and will flake and peel.
Chromate is the best known material to pretreat aluminum. Care must be taken at
our vendors to assure proper environmental waste disposal.
-
What does wet/dry fixture mean?
We test fixtures fully submerged, to assure no moisture penetrates
into the fixture. This is especially good as many junction boxes have a
tendency to have moisture intrusion.
-
What is the difference between an A, B, and C hood?
- A-hood - includes 8 integral weep holes that drain water away from
the lens. Suggested when fixture is aimed in the up position.
-
B-hood - made like the A hood except the B hood does not have the
8 weep holes. B hoods are often used facing down on a wall mounted fixture.
-
C-hood - machined on the outside. This allows an angled glare
shield to be screwed on to the fixture with a locking ring. This eliminates the
need for a "set screw." That can cause a fracture to the surface finish,
creating an opening for corrosion "creep" under the finish. This could result
in the ultimate failure of the surface finish.
-
You have 3 glare shields S, L, A what does that mean?
S is for short, L is for long, A is for a 45 degree angled glare
shield. They vary in length depending on fixture size; please refer to the
appropriate technical sheet.

I have a need to prewire 12 volt fixtures. Will you do that in the factory?
Yes, this is a common request. This will reduce field labor costs.
This allows the installers to do what they do best, that's install fixtures,
not assemble fixtures. An additional advantage is we can fully pretest each
fixture. With feed wire installed and with mounting stakes, a Louvers, lenses
& filters can be installed. We can pre wire to any length, typical is 20
feet of 14/2 landscape cable or in the case of 120V fixtures 16/2 SJO cable.
Simply specify and we will install and factory test the complete assembly.
-
Do you offer special or custom colors?
Yes, while our standard powder paint colors are, Bronze & black,
we also can supply white or verde green as standard.
Custom colors are available in 2 categories'. Standard "RAL" colors, by far the
easiest and quickest of the custom colors to supply. Lead times are affected by
approximately 10 working days.
Custom mix colors to match, require a much longer lead time and are more
costly. This involves sending us a color "chip." Then it is sent to the paint
manufacturer. They in turn produce a color "chip" and this is sent back through
distribution channels for approval. Only after the approved chip is returned to
the paint manufacture will they begin to produce the proper powder matching the
approved color. Lead times are extended depending on how quickly the approval
process takes place. Lead times are a minimum of 20 working days.
Can we get accessories to match the fixture color? Yes! Color and texture are a
big problem in the field. We can color match any fixture and accessories.
-
Do you sell remote transformers?
We sell various 120/12 volt from 300 to 900 watts in 1,2 & 3
circuits. W/6' of SJTW cord & plug. The transformers enclosures are
fabricated of Stainless Steel, for long lasting service. We also have available
transformers for "hard wired" installations.
-
Why would I buy a canopy cover from you?
For several reasons. We offer square as well as round canopies. Our
canopies are machined from 6063-T6 aluminum the same as our fixtures. They are
available in various sizes as well as custom. Canopies are finished in matching
colors relative to the fixture. This eliminates the problem of color variation
between the fixture and canopy on the job.
-
Tree mounting concerns me. I have heard using a nail in a tree can kill it.
What do you do?
We have many different ways to mount a fixture on a tree without
damaging the tree. Depending on whether you are using 12 or 120 volt fixtures,
we offer a wide selection of mounting devices. We suggest using either titanium
screws as the first choice & secondly stainless steel screws . We also
offer tree straps for mounting several fixtures on a single tree. See the
accessories section of the web site
-
Do you make custom canopy stems?
We currently have 4 standard canopy stems. Straight single fixture,
straight twin mounted fixture, Hook and Goose neck stems, up to 36". If you are
unable to find the one you desire, send us a sketch and we will gladly build to
your specification.
-
Do you also offer canopies that have the 120/12 volt transformer in the
canopy?
Yes, including canopies that hold two fixtures and transformers.
-
I am always having trouble with fixtures that "fall over" and or "fall
apart" when I use a spike. What is your solution?
We currently have 5 different spikes that are manufactured of
stainless steel. They have 3 legs thus allowing for easy penetration and
stability in most any soil, including sand. They vary from 6" depth to 26"
depth as well as an adjustable up to 24" above grade. These are made out of
stainless steel and power coated. They are rated the best in the industry.
-
What other types of mounting devices do you offer?
Standards are wall mounted canopies, Ceiling mounted canopies, stem
& stanchion mountings. Custom corner mountings, swing arm mounting (for
re-lamping from above. Where the fixture is mounted on a balcony) Adjustable
spikes allow for growth of trees & hedges.
-
Where are you located?
